While this headring is soft, it didn't completely cover my ears even though it is the right size. If it was any bigger it probably wouldn't stay on my head. It looks nicer than a hat, but I prefer my fleece hat because it's warmer and fits better around my ears.
UPDATE: I take back what I said. This headring IS good. It kept my ears warm and my hair back while skiing in -20C weather and didn't slip down or fall off. I'd bump my star rating up to a 4 stars for this product. It's very good!
