(More customer reviews)They call this a jacket but to me it's more of a parka, but not so long that it would hinder movement. It hits my daughter right at the top of the legs. We wanted the longer length for skiing so that snow does not creep in between jacket and ski pants.
It is waterproof/breathable Omni-Tech--says so right on a label inside the jacket. We have had another jacket from Columbia made with the same material and we have been very happy with it, so I expect the same.
Inside the jacket there is a sort of semi-circle of soft furry fabric in the shoulder area that my daughter loves. The collar is lined with a different soft fabric. In the blue jacket, both of these soft fabrics are brown.
It seems true to size. Size 18/20 fits me, a small woman, and it also fits my daughter, a big 11-year-old. The sleeves are a little long on both of us, but since they have velcro and elastic I think they are workable. The extra length will allow movement without exposing skin or getting snow inbetween sleeve and glove.
We got this at half the list price with free shipping and I think it's a great buy. The quality and style make it perfect for either a big kid or a small adult. My daughter just keeps growing like a weed so i don't want to invest a lot of money and yet she needs to be warm when skiing. This jacket has a lot of advanced features--sealed seams, lots of pockets designed to keep snow out, 2 interior pockets, powder skirt, removable hood, etc.
We just got it so we haven't field-tested it yet, but based on the feel, the looks, the specs, and the Columbia brand name, I am sure it will perform well. This is at least her 3rd Columbia winter/ski jacket/parka. We live and ski in Montana. [She has now worn it on four days of skiing in varying conditions. It met all our expectations.]
We bought from Altrec through amazon and it arrived in our mailbox on the 4th day after ordering. Be sure to check out the pricing and availability chart to see the lowest prices.
