(More customer reviews)I just moved to Washington State coast from northern New Jersey and needed a rain proof winter jacket. This seemed to fill the bill. I got it in all black because I wanted it to look less like a sports jacket. I got the XXL, even though I usually wear a size XL, because I wanted room for a heavy sweater underneath. It fits perfectly, although it is not quite as roomy as I might have liked. But perhaps the more tailored fit will keep me warmer. And there still is plenty of room for a heavy sweater. The sleeves are nice and long with closures at the wrist to keep out the cold. Lots of interesting pockets. I'm a city person, used to carrying a pocketbook, so I'm not really sure what to do with all these pockets. It seems like it will be very effective against wet weather, with rain and wind. It's got a nice hood and a very protective collar for the neck that you can zip up to keep you dry. I will have to try it for the winter to see if it is as good as it looks. It's not quite as heavy as I thought it would be, but it does have a very thick fleece lining that looks warm and it seems air tight. And actually I think it is just what I will need out here. In New Jersey where I used to live, it often got very cold, into the 10s and 20s for weeks at a time with snow, and you needed something very heavy, but not water proof, just water resistant. They say it doesn't get as cold as that here very often. But I'm very happy with this jacket, it exceeded my expectations and looks really sharp on me. It's actually a better looking jacket than it looks in the picture. Much smarter styling.
Jan.28 2011. Have now owned this jacket through some pretty severe winter cold and rain and can report it is even better than I imagined. The lining, which is some kind of fleece, is more than warm enough for even 12 degree cold weather. And for the rain we get out here in the Northwest, it has proved to be spectacularly water proof with a hood that goes up easily and can be made to stay up, but not cover your eyes, quickly and easily when going from car to store. I love this jacket and would highly recommend it. It also is more roomy than I thought. Have worn it over sweaters. Still haven't washed it. Will report back when I do.
March 20, 2011 - Washed jacket and washed like a dream. As good as new after washing. I'm impressed.
