This is a wonderfully made and tailored product. It is extremely light and can be packed away for travel in a small carry on. It is made of very durable mountaineering material with a beautiful soft hand and color. It's totally water and wind proof and the hood can be removed to dress it up. If you buy this coat for a cold climate, it should be noted that it has no lining. It is only a wind and rain shell. You will need a sweater or down shell under it to keep warm when cold. Note that this is breathing water proof material so it's a great rain coat in a warm climate as well. It's now her main travel coat.

These pants are great for being outdoors in the rain. I worked at a summer camp and they came very much in handy because we were outside a lot during the rain. They kept me very dry and I didn't get too warm in them, which sometimes happens with rain pants.

Marmot Palisades Jacket - Men's Review

Marmot Palisades Jacket - Men's

I bought this jacket specifically for snowboarding and I am very happy with it.
Almost all the jacket is made of Gore-Tex Pro Shell. It is waterproof, windproof, and wicks internal moisture unlike any other material. If there are better and cheaper materials that does all 3 as well as Gore-tex I don't know about them.
Additionally, the jacket has a thin inline insulation. The insultation is a thin breathable fabric (not fleece). Overall, this jacket is sufficient to keep you warm in most harsh conditions. For example, this jacket was GREAT in a snowy blizzard at Mammoth Mountain at 20 degrees. I was at Mammoth Mountain during its recent record snowfall (it snowed so hard they actually closed down the ski slopes) and I did not get wet or cold, and I was wearing only a polyester-like T-shirt underneath. You probably would need to wear a base layer in more extreme conditions.
Please note, the hood IS stowable into the collar. For some reason, a stowable hood is not part of the jacket's description. The hood can also be unzipped. But to accomodate the stowable hood, the collar is large. The jacket looks MUCH more and in proportion when the hood is stowed instead of unzipped.
As far as fit, the jacket is on the large side so it can accomodate a base layer. If you want a tight fitting jacket that can't accomodate a base layer, then I suggest you order one size lower.
As far as looks, the quality of this jacket is very visually obvious. It isn't as flashy as Arteryx, but you will pay extra for that extra Arteryx quality. I would say this jacket is plenty good for almost everyone who wants to get a jacket for skiing/snowboarding.

Marmot Yukon Down Jacket - Men's Review

Marmot Yukon Down Jacket - Men's

I bought this Parka on the reputation of Marmot technical expertise in making Parka. This parka is very well made with excellent materials and workmanship. The outside shell is tough and water proof while the inside is soft yet durable. The coat is filled with 650 down but some of the cells seem under filled which cuases cold spot on the top and front of the shoulder, on the other hand I have found the Parka to be very warm. There are draw cords on the bottom, waist and collar and with the snow skirt the Parka seals very well from the elements. I can say that this would be the best parka I ever owned if not for a major flaw in the coat which is the hood. It is enormous, you could fit a medium size pumpkin in it. The face opening is so large that the hood will not seal around your face no matter how tight your pull the draw strings you can't seal out the cold. The wind blows right in on either side of the face. A ridiculous flaw for such an expensive coat. Further the collar of the hood is just too tall keeping your mouth behind it. If you then breath through your mouth the collar front becomes wet from your breath. Another very poor design feature.
I was so surprised at this flaw that I called Marmot about it and this is what Marmot's customer service rep told me after contacting the design department. "The hood is not meant to be worn, it was a styling decision to make it so big. Most people who buy this coat do not use the hood." I couldn't believe it. Marmot who's rep is their technical expertise of their outerwear is putting style above function. This is a Parka designed and marketed for cold weather yet the hood is not meant for use??? It is obvious that Marmot has moved from a maker of top gear to a mass merchandiser. This is a shame because this coat could have been one of the best out there but as it stands with this ridiculous hood I can not recommend this Parka.
There are better manufactures with real performance outerwear out there, take a pass on this coat and get one that is truly designed for the cold unless looking good in the cold is more important to you then keeping warm in it.

Furlong Jacket - Women's by Marmot Review

Furlong Jacket - Women's by Marmot

It is a bit pricey considering it is not a heavy winter coat, BUT it is VERY stylish and chic for ladies to wear around town or on a mild weather hike. The faux fur feels luxurious and the entire hood is lined in the faux fur so your head feels like it is being enveloped in warm softness! The sizes run SMALL so definitely get at least one size larger than normal, if not 2. I got mine at a retail store in Portland, OR for $100. There is another Marmot Furlong jacket out there for women that is similar to this one, but has a more rounded "scuba" hood and also has fur on the sleeves cuffs, and around the bottom of the jacket. It is also very cute and fitted, but I think the fur trim on this one is more elegant! Yay! I love this jacket!

This parka is excellent. It is very warm and rather stylish for a down filled garment. The length protects knees from biting cold. The hood fits snugly without obstructing view. Magnetic fasteners are nice touch. The picture does not do justice to this parka. It looks much better on a person than the Halloween costume shown on the photo.
